Title: Pipe size on exhausts
Post by: funkyfive on 24 June 2009, 07:17
Help needed again!!

I have just bought a magnex system off edition38 for £60 notes but its for a VR6 and I have a 8v.

Does anyone know if i need a reducer pipe or will it go straight on?

If i do need a reducer pipe what size is the standard exhaust pipe on a 8v?

You will need a reducer.

Thanks do you know what size as there seems to be loads. I am just after the diameter of the standard piping on a 8v?

Fitted the exhaust on today, no need for a reducer at all. the diameter is 55mm on the vr6, 8v and 16v.

 The 8v should be smaller! 2" rather than 2.5" for the 16v and VR6 iirc

Not on mine, it fitted on without the need to change the sleeve that goes onto the cat? I will take it off tomorrow and check again to be sure.

I checked again and can defo confirm that the pipe size is 55mm on the 8v and no reducer was required for a magnex exhaust system product code XSVWG4/3

I checked with Kwik Fit and they confirmed the diameter was the same on the 8v, 16v and VR6.

2.25" i thought?

although a 16v exhaust will fit a 1.8 (shady). i guess the 1.4/1.6 are the same then? 2" or 1.75"??

Well its seems I was extremely misinformed not by the forum members and was completey wrong on this topic i posted. I found out the 95 Golf GTI has a diameter on the cat to centre section is 53mm and the Magnex centre section is 55mm. So i need a reducer! Also the downpipe to cat bore size is 55mm if anyone is interested.

I measured the bore using a micometer thing my father in law let me borrow.
