Hello all,
I own a mk4 gt tdi 130 bhp which is very bouncy. My father in-law drove it and he said the same so I took it to vw and they checked it all out and they said that it was fine. Does anyone else have the same problem or have had the same problem or am I going to have to buy new suspension for the car at a great cost???
many thanks
Ronnie

I loathe taking my car to a dealership service dept. , they really can't tell one car from another and unless a fault code shows up on their little box of tricks they tell you the car is fine. For example, when my turbo blew the "mechanic" tried to tell me the car wasn't lacking power, and the horrible whining noise was just the impellors spooling up !
To be honest though, the 1.8T's and PD150's come with vw "sport suspension" and I wouldn't really call it stiff.
If the shocks arent knackered and they won't replace anything under warranty, you may want to look into aftermarket suspension.
Chris.

Mine is quite bouncy on the front. have put lowering springs on though. that seems to be why. Do you have standard or lowered springs? Might have to change the shox as well.

Yep, to be honest the GT Tdi (PD 130) has pretty poor standard suspension, when I drive my Dads 1.8T or my mates 25th Anni PD 150, there is a major difference when compared to my own PD 130. Although my mk2 GTi pisses over every standard mk4 I have driven :-(

Hello,
thanks to all who replyed. I have had no joy from vw( no shock there), but I have now put 17'' alloys on the car and the wife says that she has noticed a big differance. I am still looking at changing the suspension but there is not as much of a rush now.
Thanks again,
Ronnie

Glad to hear she's happy with it. Takes years of convincing mine!!!!

My 150PD had sports suspension as standard but I still felt this was too soft accompanied bty too much body roll,? I recntly bit the bullet and upgraded to Koni adj dampers,? stiffer 30mm Eibach springs and front & rear Anti roll bars,? ?the car is now a different beast with excellent handling for a front wheel drive car,? it wasn't cheap but it's good to know there is a solution.? Your 130 would only have the sports suspension if accompanied by 17" Santa monica alloys,? I would agree with previous comments that the VW sports set up is superior but the upgrade is in a different league,? still comfortable but at last handling to match that torquey power plant. ;D
