hi all, well i got a 16valver in the mk1 as i bought it already fitted, im having trouble with the gear selector so im thinking of getting a new repair kit but im not sure what gearbox is in mine, anyway to tell what gearbox i have?
-
have a look at the top, if it has a load oif rods on its an 020 rod shift, if it has 2 cables its 02a cable shaft. unlikelyt to be a cable shifter if its a boggo valver though. If its a rod shift get yourself a bog std MK1 GTI rebuild kit, they're all the same. Though I guess it could have MK2 linkages bodged in? got any pics?

thats a rod shift alright, and it has the proper MK1 linkage. I can see the early MFA multi pin plug on it so chances are its the original MK1 gearbox. You need a bog std MK1 GTI bush kit :)

cheers for that, is this gearbox ok on a 16 valver engine? its not as rapd as i thought when i got it

depends what code it is and what you want out of it, balls out accelleration, economy or something in between! the gearbox code is on a flat part of the bellhousing at the bottom, along with a date code giving the date it was made.
