My car is going into the bodyshop next week (see http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=119960.0 (http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=119960.0)) and was wondering if I should have the black plastic moulding on the bottom of the front and rear bumpers colour-coded???
What do people think?
-
Yes, should have come out the factory like that imo.
-
agreed, they will need to be flatted down first though as there not smooth plastic, but definatley colour code them
-
colour code - looks better on lighter colour cars
-
That's a yes then

They're like a textured finish aren't they from memory? I know the guy at the bodyshop and he said it will need smoothing down and a lot of primer but it should work, yeah..?
-
yeah do it
-
List of things to be done:
- Tailgate removed, re-sprayed and then re-fitted
- Front bumper replaced and re-sprayed, including colour-coding
- Rear bumper replaced and re-sprayed, including colour-coding
- New number plates front and rear
- New number plate holders front and rear
The garage reckon they only need the car for 3-4 days
-
Sorry guys but i vote no, they look cheap and nasty colour coded IMO, but it looks like i'm the only one to think this lol! :lipsrsealed:
-
sorry i have to say no do the ones in bumper but the ones on the bottom leave black looks better
-
DO IT! ... looks million times better
my mate just did his leon and looks awesome the bumpers look completely different... makesure to get the line fillered in to so looks like one whole bumper
-

you get the join between the valence and bumper smoother and filled
have a look at Patch's car for an idea - he's had an anni valence smoothed into the rear bumper so it looks like one complete bumper
-
Has this car had the join filled in? I don't think they have, have they?

-
No he hasn't, although it doesn't look awful if you don't.
-
What about Ridg? Didn't he have his bumpers colour-coded not so long ago? What did his look like?
*Que Rhyso for the link

His wasn't filled from memory and looks pretty much the same as that one.
This is from my shocking memory though, I'm pretty sure I'm right (famous last words).
Im joining you on that Rhys, Im off home now.
-
Part timers!!!
-
I say go for it. Looks 100% better. I had mine done about a month ago (although I didnt get them smoothed into the bumper and had the front one replaced with a JOM airblade). Back one is standard though.
Pic Whore:

yeah i had mine done and looks so much better!!! as for the smoothing into the bumper i would of liked it done but didnt have the money
-
How do you think it will look with mud flaps though??? I'm thinking they should come off...
-
mine were never flatted down, just primed then painted
Still came out a nice finish
-
I've decided to go for it. I left the car with them this morning and told them to get on with colour-coding both the front and rear bumpers. I've also asked them to get rid of the mudflaps so they'll be up for sale soon in the classifieds. PM me if interested! PS - they haven't got the little VW logo on them before anyone asks.
-
you getting them smoothed off to ben?
-
Yes mate, looking forward to the results!

Ben,
Are they removing the bumpers as well or are they already off?
If you colour code the plastic at the bottom of the bumper like someone said they will have to be flattened, but also they will need plastic primer.
Is it worth doing if you are upgraing the exhaust in future plans?
Just out of interest are you debadging the tailgate and what have you been quoted for the work?
The time you have been quoted is about right as they will prep, prime let that rest for a day before top coat and laquer and polishing

The bumpers are being replaced because both are cracked so the colour-coding work will be done before the bumpers go back on.
I'm not planning on upgrading the exhaust so being a diesel it will remain hidden. If money was not object (and I had a petrol car) I would have the R-line rear bumper and twin exit mk4 R32 exhaust
I'm not debadging the tailgate. The badges are being re-fitted after it has been re-sprayed. The cost of having the boot put right is £300. The cost of replacing the bumpers, having them sprayed, colour-coded and fitted is £1000.
Will hopefully be picking it up on Friday after I have fitted my new german style number plates and ABT Tuning number plate holders

Fecking hell... Just getting up off the floor
"If money was no object" The cost of replacing the bumpers, having them sprayed, colour-coded and fitted is £1000. !!!!!!
You could get two second hand uncracked bumpers off ebay from someone doing a R32 replica for about £100 -£150 plus £300 to paint and fit them
£550 - £600 Saving
Are you getting a FREE case of Beer off the garage at that price or a gold clock

Lol, I think that maybe carnut might think you're the nitwit. Your post that he replied to had the phrase 'if money was not object' (I think you meant 'if money was no object'), so I think his reply was to your money no object statement.

The work isn't costing me a penny so I don't care what it costs. If it was my money I would do what I said...am I missing something???
-

I dropped off the courtesy car tonight and couldn't help but have a nose at the Golf. I'm really pleased with how the front and rear splitters have turned out - much better than I thought they would! The mud flaps have gone and it looks much better for it. One other little mod - the tailgate has been resprayed but the badges haven't been put back on yet. I told the bodushop to leave them off - it looks pretty good badgeless  Also, I got my new plates from Dubmesiter today. They look amazing
I will hopefully pick the car up on Monday. Pics to follow shortly...
-
Just got back from the boyshop

I'm really pleased with the results. I've got the car booked in again soon for the front grill and to have a few other little things put right.
I'll put some pics up in the sun when its dried up a bit!
Any feedback is welcome

thats good to know!! my copmuter screen doesn't like silver then as i said the same thing about Ridg's car when he had his colour coded
-
As you can probably tell from the photos, we had just had a torrential down pour so the light wasn't the best. Round the front of the car, there was a big puddle of water that had collected and that was throwing the auto ISO off like mad!
-
Looks smart mate
Don't worry about Rhyso's comments.....must be all that diesel smoke which has affected his vision
