Title: Advice on 1.9TDi MK3 golf - timing belt / occassional jerky acceleration

Hi, 1st time golf driver.

Bought a 2nd hand Golf MK3 GL 1.9TDi 1995 95k miles, recent oil / filter change

Before I go to a garage - Dealer Service history up to 70K (7 years ago) nothing mentioined about timing belt, so guessing I should get that done. Anything else recomended whilst there're doing that?

Noticed occassional jerky accelleration from a cold start, fine after 5 minutes of driving - what could that be?

I think the engines are noisy generally, but mine sounds like a bit of a tractor, anything to quieten it down or is this normal?
