Now im upgrading to a mk4 golf, what engine should i go for?
Please no sugegstions of 1.8t, anythin with GT or GTI, due to insurance cost.
Options-
1.4 - (same as my mk3 so with the weight increase would I have ANY performance increase?)
1.6 - Not as echo as 1.4 and ive heared they are unreliable
TDI- Ideally if one for my budget appears ill opt for the TDI, but being diesel they almost all have huge milage or above my budget.
Spec-
1.4 (75bhp): 106mph, 0-60 13.5 sec, 44.1mpg
1.6 (100bhp): 117mph, 0-60 10.9 sec, 37.2mpg
1.9 TDi 90 (90bhp): 112mph, 0-60 12.6 sec, 57.6mpg
What was the mk3 1.4 stock specs?
Is that performance different 1.4-1.6 worth getting?
What are they like from your own personal experience?
Problem with diesel, while cheaper to run my insurance is over 100 more per yr compared to petrol options, and going rate for one with decent milage seems to be several hundred more than petrol.

I would go for the Diesel.

Again, your not gettin a performance model. So get the TDI, get the MPG.

Diesel all the way.
Any of them to be honest - they're all better than the limp-wristed petrols.
-
If I was buying one, I would go for the diesel too.
Much more economical and my mates dad has the 90bhp diesel and its pretty nippy :)

Gotta go for the diesel - the engines are pretty reliable provided they've been looked after so I'd go for one of them
Plus they're cheap to tax on a 51-plate onwards at £120 per year
