Title: wheel spacers
Post by: avengedslayer on 20 June 2009, 09:37
okay got rid of the horrid bubble tyres yesterday and fitted toyo tyres 195.45.15 all round! Wow cant believe how `smooth the drive is especially after having tracking sorted  anyway the wheels do look lost in the arches now so im after getting some wheel spacers to bring them out! whats the widest to be recommended without needing new bolts?

5mm is the widest you can use without needing new bolts.

okay cheers! dont think 5mm will do a great deal! what about longer bolts?, its just that i can lower it and the front wheels will look how I want them but its the rears! there seems to be lots of tuck on pics iv seen of lowered car on standard rims

Anything wider than 5mm needs to hubcentric to locate the wheel correctlly, try venom for 10mm or 15mm which includes bolts.

oMG they do up to 70mm! thats crazy, 40mm ones will make the wheels look perfect but im better lowering it first then re measuring,  cheers for the advise! venom is only 5 mins away too

40mm are too big, that would leave you with an offset of about ET3

okay what offset should I be going for then?

well im guessing the standard offset is ET43 so 20mm spacers will fill the arches ok. Boney had some on his golf, cant remember the size though.

If the standard offset is ET35 then 10mm.

yea wheels stamped up ET43 so 20mm will make it ET23! I want it to have less tuck thats all! when you think its only 20mm but i suppose it will have a difference!

aren't those too low profile... 15" should be 195/50/15..... 16" are 45 profile and 17" are 40 profile to keep the speedo accurate...

Correct, although later mk3 GTI's came with 205/50/15 tyres as standard.

195/45/15's will put the gearing out.
