Title: Looking at getting Alpine CDE-102Ri and a KCE-433iV cable
Post by: AlexKid on 20 June 2009, 07:39
Hi all.  I don't know a lot on the latest head units or iPod connection.  However, I've found this very nice looking head unit for my Mk4.
http://www.caraudiocentre.co.uk/product_m-alpine-cde-102ri_p-23615.htm#first

Also the necessary cable to feed my iPod in the glove box.  It says it works with 4th Generation Nanos which I have.  Do you know if by now these cables and head units offer full functionality with the Nano.  I.e. charging and selection of tracks via the head unit.

I'm really liking the look of this head unit as it will sit quite discretely in the Mk4.

Many thanks.

Not necessarily asking if anyone has the above head unit.  Just anyone with any experience with car stereos and the iPod interface.

i have an alpine 9880r with the ipod lead and i like it you can only controll all the music through the head unit itsself but its quick and easy to use i usally just set it to shuffle all the songs on my ipod and skip ones i dont want to listen to, only bad thing about mine is that it doesnt charge the ipod but i can buy an add-on box for it.

I was after the 9880 a while back but the inability to charge your iPod deterred me.  Since then new head units have been made and subsequently new cables.  Will this work with my 4Gb Nano do you think?

cant see why it wouldnt work with nano, if it dont by the little box add-on to enable charging even tho its costs about £50ish

Does anyone also know if it's easy to get the cable from the back of the head unit into the glove compartment?

I have the 9880R, it's a cracking headunit. The problem however was the cable, I got a 4th gen nano and it played but didn't charge, this was due to the cable no being compatible with the slightly modified dock Apple put in the nano.

However Alpine sent me an attachment that goes in between the headunit and the main cable which cured this, mind you I got rid of the nano and got a 120GB Classic instead lol! Needless to say, it would be better going for one of the newer units purely for compatibility.

Looks like this head unit is the one then.  I'll order it tonight with the cable.

Nope, I was under warranty but I only rang them and just said they'd send it out without any details other than my address.
