Do you think i have a mayo problem? :lipsrsealed:
The gti has very small spot of mayo on the oil filler cap, none on the dipstick though. no signs of oil in the expansion tank. there is no excess smoke. it has always used a touch of water, but more so within the last 6 months.
also the flying saucer was lined with gunky mayo crap aswell as the breather pipe that returns from the flying saucer to the inlet manifold.
the car is only being used 2 or 3 days a week, about 20 miles a day.
is this level of mayo normal?

i think it is down to condensation try taking it for a good run and see what its like after i had same on one of my old cars and was told its was down to short journeys

ok but im guessing it would be an idea to clean the gunk out first?

This thread is worthless without pictures.
How much emulsion is there.

yep but it was getting late last night... i suppose about a 1-2mm round blob on the oil filler cap, and a 2-3mm thick coating in the breather pipe
off to work in a bit to blow it out with an air line

if its a 1.8 8v i had this prob an i was the oil cooler ...
-
Sounds like its just condensation to me....if its still there after a good run i'd look further into it but otherwise its prob nothing
-
Does not sound like a problem to me!

If it's head gasket your temp will go sky high very quickly. I used to get mayo in my old camper and that was air cooled. Sounds like condensation to me.

i think i can rule that out then as the oil and water temps are fine

just condensation dude. take the car for a nice long blast in the motorway, sticking to the speed limit (of course) in 4th so the revs are nice and high. That should clear all the breathing pipes

I had this on my car recently. I only went 4 miles a day at it never warmed up properly. Took it 200 miles and it all went.
-
I wouldn't really give it any concern. Check your air filter though and make sure it isn't wet, my airbox got wet somehow and it just meant all the breathers were full of mayo. I cleaned it all out with degrease, then went on a big 100+ mile drive, no sign since.

seems alright now guys, thanks
p.s. buy my car
