start with a good service mate then things like

panel filter with drilled air box
decat and exhaust
cams
head porting
remap
balanced and lightend fly wheel

this lot will give good power and cost is reasonable

If its anything like a MK2 abf i know, you might also want to consider some good rubber to keep the power on the ground. ;)

iv got an 8v already. 134hp@5712/144.6lbf.ft@4513 @ CALCULATED fly

hence why iv bought a 16v   seriously though. my engine is sweet.  pulls low down so well. revs cleanly to 6.5k. just a shame theres no power up there!

the spec is-

k&n filter in trumpet removed airbox
newman 268'
matched inlet
ported head 35mm/40mm
2.0 agg 70k
lightened balanced flywheel circa 30% reduction
matched and ported ex manifold
milltek full system

the thing is, day to day, the car is so good to drive. will pootle around at 30 in 5th all day long. pull up hills in 5th. will give good economy, and will pull in a linear way up to its 6.5k limiter. it has a real good amount of torque

i know the 16v ia a different animal. has to be revved to get the power out of it. so it worries me it was be as versitile as my 8v.  and be alot heavier on the go go juice! but sound fantastic full chat at 7k!

iv read ess_three's thread. so it looks like with my piperx filter, ported ex mani, no cat and jetex system il be circa 165hp. running a 020 box with shorter ratio's than an 02a. lightened fly, in a lighter car!

id really like to see 180 and good torque
