Ok this has prob been covered millions of times already but search facility wasn't helping much.
Problem is occasionally when I attempt to start my Golf it doesn't do anything....
It just sits in stage 3 ignition. Then after some time (varies in length) I get a clicking sound from the relays/fusebox area and then the car decides to turn over and eventually start.
I have been reading on here that Buggered relays are to blame for the clicky sound...and need to replace no. 30 and 167 - so to resolve this I went to VW today and asked them for new ones......after some time the parts person couldn't find the correct one as Relay 30 doesn't exist according to VW Parts?? so he has given me the entire list of relay parts to find out the correct ones that I need for my GTi 8v (AGG engine Code)
I have a vague idea which ones I need from the list but would want to make sure so I thought that I'd ask the people in the know!
All/Any help would be great folks!!

The #30 relay part # is 165 906 381 and most definitely available.
-
non of the fusebox relays would cause the car to not turn over, I'd say its more likely to be the ignition switch
-
We on here call the ECU relay 30 because its the number stamped on it!
It means nothet to a main dealer parts man! Only their part number counts with them!
Relays should click as far as I'm aware, but to test the easy way you get car warm/hot then stop and take em out if they aRE WARM ALL ROUND THEM THEY GOOD!

Yeh that is also on my mind..... that could be the problem. Doesn't that mean a new ECU if its broke?

Could be un related to the relays, and be the ignition switch?

How much is an ignition switch? Easy job?

Not 100% but dont think 8v has a seperate relay for ECU.If there is no lights(dash) etc when turning the key give it a jiggle a couple of times in the
off position and try again-if it manages to turnover after doin this it is the ignition switch, not too costly, bout 15-20 but getting it fitting will cost
a fair bit more

i have the same sorta problem but my radiator fan wont turn off by its self, does anybody know which relay controls it or knows anything that could solve the problem. thanks

Ignition switches regularly fail on mk3's.
