anyone here done their own remap with one of these ECU chip flashing tools?. would be interesting to know as you can use files which have been aquired from a trusted source and burn them to your ecu?.
could anyone recommend a tool and file source without having to go to a company to do it for you?

very much depends on your car, sustable tools can noramly be had for about £25-50 files are a bit diffrent
if you don't havethe skills to check it youself or not willing to take the risk dont do it

On your MK4 1.8T I wouldn't risk it. Get the boys from R-Tech over to do a proper job. You get a forum discount and Nick and Ben really know what they are doing.

well, did start my own megasquirt project once, didnt finish it mind you but learned alot from it. still wouldnt say i have the knowledge to write a map but if a file is already to hand then burning it wouldnt be a problem.

you can buy dvd's full of std maps and tuned versions for not much money.
but most of them are sub optimal, remapping itslef is incredibly easy to do on most cars ( tho some area b!tch ) but really your paying for development of the tuned maps more than installing them, hence optimal tuned maps files are quit valubal things.
