I fitted a 16v Engine into my project car which was running perfectly before i changed it, infact after it ran perfect after too!
I snapped off the spade on the oil sensor while fitting the engine and from the first start the oil light would flash constanty, over 2000 rpm or so it would start beeping.. I presumed it was just the sensor i snapped as oil pressure would cause the tappets to go nuts!
About 3 months later (its been sitting for a while) it just started tapping quite badly, so i changed the sensor (which turned out to be the temp for the MAF) And the oil light is still flashing constantly as well as it tapping :undecided:
Im worried now, its odd this began when i changed the engine.. The only thing i can think is when i fitted the engine it rested on the front engine mount and sqished the bottom of the oil filter just a little bit, but it ran fine without tapping for a while, im wondering if it just needs a good service and the oil light is electrical problems, but im not going to risk it to find out without asking opinions first.

check you have pressure with an actual gadgue electonic or mecanical
-
Whats actually tapping?
Is the engine running smooth? Smoking at all? Any oil leak from the filter area?
-
My car had a dented oil filter for ages, never done it any harm tbh.
Just to maybe rule that out of your mind a bit.
-
these also have 2 oil sensors (one which works above about 2000rpm) so its possible you've swapped the wrong one? and the tapping is just lack of use?
-
Possible they are connected the wrong way, but the light is always on and it does start beeping above 2000 rpm
It was running fine when i was taking it in and out of the drive (would start it up and run it for 10 mins mabey twise a day 2/3 days of the week, so not long use but it just started tapping all of a sudden when i started it, the engine runs spot on though! deffo the valve gear making a noise.

Have you left a Pasty in there? could block the oil flow
Sorry that was un called for

...its possible
-
top end rattel is a sing of seriously low oil pressure, if the lightsare flashing as well i would be wanting to check the pump asap before a rod jumps out
-
As above, get the oil pressure checked straight away.
