Took my Mk3 into the garage yesterday as I thought it needed a new wheel bearing ? I was getting a loud humming at certain speeds.
Bit embarrassing really ? no problem with the car, it was simply my rear tyres which had warn bald on the inside section ? apparently that causes excessive road noise.
So I need some new tyres ? I?m gonna get Toyo P?s ? I recall everyone saying they were good ? are they the best bet? I?ve been offered Dunlops and Continentals for the same money, so I have a choice.
What do you reckon? They're for the rear wheels btw, not the fronts.

I would always put the new tyres on the front.
And go for the Proxes.
Ya might wanna check why ya got tyre wear on the inside of the rears. Suspension Bushes? maybe.
Coz if its worn out yer tyres its gonna do it again.

I run on toyo P's and love them
I buy them from my tyres loads cheaper than any local garages
I would also put the front tyres on teh back and the new ones on the front

Alright matey, I'd have Toyos everytime. ?I've found that they are'nt the longest lasting tyres but they perform consistantly in most conditions. On hot tarmac the grip is :o
Suppose it just depends what you're after conti's are bang on in the wet.
If it were my chioce it'd be Toyo's

I'm going to go against everyone else and say I hated Toyo's. I thought they were pants compared to Yokie A539's and wore just as quick and had worst dry and wet road holdingness.
Just my opinion so don't start another war over this please :)

I had some Yoko's on my other car - actually quite liked them. But thought the wear wasnt that great.
Thought Yoko's had gone out of vogue atm. Plus not as easy to get a good price on em.

I'm a fan of the Bridgestone Potenza's - yet to replace the Golf's tyres so not sure how well they'd compliment her, but used nothing but on my previous XR2 as the sizes suited ... she stuck to the road like glue !
The high end Potenza's are often found as factory fit on many performance cars ?;D

Ive got toyo's all round at the moment, and yeah, when its dry the grip is shi!t hot! 8)
However, twice in two days I've stopped at a funny angle at a junction... because I've found the toyo's lock up more easily than scrooge's safe! particularly bad when the back loses grip, not much you can do to correct it in a front wheel drive >:(
Got pirelli's waiting to go on the back now, got em for the same price too: 195/45/R16 ?56 each ;) ;D
N.b. I put new toyo's on the front about three months back, i dont expect to last much after christmas... they re a very soft compound, so they wear out quite quickly.

I do. My friends at quik fit needed to make bugget so I got those cheaper than they got them from yokie ;D

I have to run Conti Sports, as they are the only company to make the size I use on the rear (215/40/14). No complaints with them at all. Good grip and wear well.

That is the same as the mk1 conti sport are the only ones that make the size I need, the car wheels spinds in 5th gear in teh wet but is that the power or the low profile tyres? I still say toyo as on the mk2.
