Excellent drive, excellent.

Is it possible to change the km/h digital speed readout on the MFD to mph?

I have PM'ed you with my email address: would you mind emailing me the hires photos, please? I ordered my GTI 7 weeks ago and have still to see one in person. Good quality pix of a carbon steel one will keep me going until delivery :)

TIA

P.S. not sure I'd let my wife drive mine on the first day, either ;)

Yeah it's in the Menu section of the computer. We can change it between the two on our Audi A3....

i was looking in mfd the other day at this and i can't find a option to change to mph but then i realised their is no read out for kmph on speedometer only mph, so im guessing by law you have to display both, hence why you can't change it to mph.
Title: Re: Picking Up New Car Today
Post by: FroGTI on 19 June 2009, 17:47
I've always wondered about that: UK cars have to display both mph & kph, but here on the Continent, we only get kph. When I come over to the UK on business I never know how fast I'm going (officer...) ;)

lol I actually like the MK6, more than every other hatch! Im just disappointed (and slightly bitter) about the lack of a true R (i.e. V6, 4wd) as it would be a truly stunning car if they made it!

I also dont think any mk5'er hates it, just a slight disappointment that is a revised mk5. But then as the old saying goes 'if aint broke, dont fix it'.

VW never ever said it was going to be radically different, it was always meant to be just a slight facelift and most importantly to get away from the expensive costs of the mk5.

Jules, you do realise that the Golf R will have more power and more torque than your R32?
Title: Re: Picking Up New Car Today
Post by: Jkctr on 21 June 2009, 13:34
Yep, this is more of a downside for me mate as it wont be usable (not fully anyway)

If i wanted a fast FWD hatch i would have bought an ED30.

After driving 4WD i just couldnt go for something powerful with fwd now! An old cliche but as soon as it rains it wont matter if it has 100 bhp and lb/ft of torque more.
Title: Re: Picking Up New Car Today
Post by: AlanD on 21 June 2009, 13:46
I agree, BUT its not been confirmed that its FWD or 4WD (not my knowledge anyway?)
Title: Re: Picking Up New Car Today
Post by: Jkctr on 21 June 2009, 13:49
Its been pretty much confirmed that no 4wd system will be being used. They wont compete against the S3 mate lets face it.

One of the reasons I want a mk4 R32 so much is 4WD!!

Wow, stunning car. Same colour as the one I have ordered and these are the first decent quality pictures I have seen of carbon grey. Many thanks and ENJOY !! :)

P.S. Thanks for not resizing them. I don't care what members with small screens think, I like giant pix so I can save them and zoom in to look at all the tiny details like the sad nerd that I am ;)

VW are going for lightness with smaller engines to decrease emissions. The extra power needed to offset the weight means extra Co2.

I agree with you in a way, but I chose carbon grey for the following reasons (FYI, I have lived in France for the past 25 years and have therefore acquired a Continental taste ;))

- black looks best on expensive saloons, is horrid to keep clean and shows all the swirl marks
- white makes it look like a (French) ambulance
- silver is a TDI-driving rep's choice
- the other greys are a bit weird
- red is too flash for me
- shadow blue was the colour I had on my Golf Plus TDI (and even on that I didn't like it very much)

Some of the exotic colours available in Germany may have tempted me, but they're not available her.

So I suppose I chose carbon grey almost by elimination. That plus the fact that it's a unique-to-the-GTI colour and I've never had dark grey before :)

Mine's a carbon grey too - due on September 1st and like everyone else these are the first proper pictures of one. I have to say I'm even more excited about it now as it looks stunning. However, I agree it does look a bit black so will have to see it next to a proper black one in real life to tell the difference.

Gorgeous   Looks like the best colour for the GTI I've seen so far.

I saw a MK6 GTD in white today and it looked awesome. Popping down to VW in Oxford tomorrow for some things on my lunch, I'll probably have a proper look at the MK6 as the wife ain't there nagging me to stop looking at cars

v nice.

I bought a grey one as it was subtle and blended in!  I like the fact you can park a Golf in a car park and not worry about it because it looks like most other Golfs!  Black is the best looking car, but as soon as you've finished cleaning it, it gets dirty from dust!  White looks stunning, but I can see it being a phase colour - where it goes out of date soon.

If I wanted something that screams 'fast car' I'd have bought a bright green Focus or something!!

Lovely. I would go for either that colour, or Candy white.

Despite the cost, I would have to have the Xenon's though as they look awesome and make the front end much more aggressive.

Oh rly?  Have you seen the [censored] prices?  Does anyone in their right mind pay that just for a prettier colour that you can probably get on a Ford Ka for £250 anyway?

You think thats expensive. If you want your new Alfa to come in the same paint colour as the 8C its a £15,000 (yes thats £15,000) option

http://www.alfaowner.com/Forum/alfa-8c-and-8c-spider/126916-8c-paint.html

I didn't believe it either till I asked one of the chaps on the Alfa stand at Goodwood and he confirmed.
