Title: RESEALING BBS RM'S
Post by: eyeletboy on 18 June 2009, 08:02
Is there any specific way of doing this? I have just refurbished a set and don't fancy putting them back together then finding out i have not sealed them properly.

I don't know what the stuff is called sorry, but I've seen some1 paint it on with a brush, thickly painted on.

Think its called silkaflex or something in those lines.

Im just going to use the strongest sealer i can find in my diy store. Mine have started to leak through the bolts as the main seal has given way. Thick bead of sealer me thinks

mate if you silkaflex them on you will never get them back off! all you need is high modulus silicone sealant

i found the best way is to put a blob between bolt holes, put dish on, torque up say 8 of them, put a bead round the inside then do the rest up. i have read to do them up dry and then seal but they have leaked when i tried that method (twice lol)

most importantly, make sure the surfaces are spotless. use a bit of wet and dry

Cheers for the reply guys. Cleaned the surfaces with a bit of sandpaper and neat alcohol then sealed them dry finishing them off with some silocon around the outside.Hopefully this will do the job.Proof is in the pudding when i fit them back on the car in the morning.Fingers crossed.
