Title: Why does the engine subframe have a solid lump of metal bolted to it?

I replaced the subframe yesterday.
Why do they have a large block of metal bolted to them on the front?

It will be some form of anti vibration damper.

Anti-resonance/vibration thingamy.

They also make handy press tools - I recommend them and the outer for 100mm CVs for pressing all sorts of bearings and bushes in and out.

they are trophies,   you collect them in your workshop to prove how meany mk3's you've killed  :smiley: and they do make very good press tools as well  , multipourpose innit
