Hi,
Ive currently got a Golf GT TDI 110BHP. Ive owned it now for 2months. Since i have had it i have been experiencing power loss. i have replaced the Maf Sensor which was one of the faults on my computer and the other fault is my turbo. VW said this could be down to the MAF sensor going down.
Normally at night when i put my foot down there is quiet a lot of smoke behind me howver last night for some reason my turbo went of for around 15minutes. When it did this there was no smoke. When the Turbo came back on it then was smoking again when i put my foot down.
In order to get the turbo back on i had to turn the car off and then back on.
Has anybody got any ideas????
Ive been told about the turbo actuator...
Could this be possible?
Thanks

what colour smoke is coming out of the exhaust??
black - indicates boost leak / over fueling
white = oil / turbo problem
does the car use an excessive amount of oil?
-
i think the smoke is white, it looks that way at night however it occasionaly kicks out black which i thought was normall for a diesel. i the car doesnt really use much diesel. its still full from when i purchased it 2 months ago and ive covered 3000 miles...
thanks

i asked about how much OIL not diesel
have you had to top up the oil since you bought it??
diesels do kick out some black smoke but it shouldn't be excessive.
if its white smoke then you got problems

i ment oil mate haha not diesel haha :-) what type of problems could i be looking at? everbody has told me my turbo is f**ked and just to buy a recon one. however i dont intend to keep it much longer so i would much prefer just to clean my old 1 if thats possible?

wasn't sure
either a sticking actuator, faulty N75 valve (controls boost) or boost leak
whereabouts in the country are you?? i'd take it to a VW specialist for a good opinion - i can speculate as to your problems but you need a pro to have a decent poke around
if it is your turbo then the value of your car will be seriously affected unless you can pick up a cheap 2nd hand unit and get it fitted and back in working order

im from manchester :-) what about you? i was told from vw that it could be a stick actuator however i dont know were abouts this is and or how you test it or clean it? have you any ideas on this front. at the moment ive nothing to loose...

South Wales
if you're in Manchester i'd get it to Awesome GTi for them to have a look at - they are VW specialists and should be able to diagnose your problem  and are cheaper than the dealers
at least you'll know what it is and how much it will cost to fix. Never know it might be a case of a sensor is kaput and £40 later its all fixed

ye thats what im hoping but trust me, with my luck things are never this straight forward haha :-)
