Hi,
ive currently got a 110BHP GOLF GT TDI. I am thinking of having it remaped at r tech. however i am now thinking of selling it and then upgrading to the GT TDI 150BHP And having that remaped. Will i see much more performance? What else could i do to the 150BHP to get more power/bhp?
thanks
-
sorry but i have to lol
110 remaps to approx 140bhp maybe more
150bhp has more power than that as standard - remap it and you're looking at approx 190bhp
all due respect you don't need a calculator to work it out
-
ok mate,
would you recommend the 150 then? i really want the 150bhp. what would you recommend to pay for a 2000 or 2001 plate mileage under 100,000k ?
cheers :-)

definietly :afro:
you won't get a 150 on a 2001 plate - they weren't introduced until 2002 i believe after the launch of the Anniversary model
or a cheaper alternative would be a 130bhp - check out my project thread for more details
-
ok mate,
ill prob end up getting the 130bhp then. is that what yours is? what have you done to it to get it to 176bhp? whats your accleration and top end like?
thanks

it is a 130 yeah - Stage 1 R-Tech map is all i've done
acceleration is superb - its the mid-range pull thats the most impressive which is good for overtaking :afro:
top end is much improved but the turbo is smaller than on the 150bhp so its not as sustained but then how often do you rev to the redline anyway as the power tails off well before then
-
ok,
you've sold it....130bhp it is haha :-) cant wait now haha :-) what speed have you had top speed? do you have a figure for me or not? i take it that the mpg is still superb being a diesel :-) ???

lol it all depends how far you want to take the tuning - 150 has a front mounted cooler as standard and a larger turbo
top speed doesn't change - don't forget the gearing is still the same; just it gets there a little quicker
don't get hung up on 0-60 times and top speed - diesels are all about the mid-range, overtaking power
MPG - easy 50mpg + and when taking it steady can see highs of 60mpg
-
ye the front mounted cooler does sound better however i cant really afford the 150 bhp as its going to be 2002 +. i think that the 130 is going to be more than enough. ye i understand that there not about top end speed. to be honist you cant do the top speeds that these things do any way or you will find your self on the hard shoulder with flashing blue lights behind you :-). i prefer the pulling away power when overtaking really its much more fun :-) thanks for all your help :-)))))))

i think the 130bhp is more than enough (obviously biased lol!) but they are cheaper and there are more of them about as they were introduced in 2001
make sure you test drive a few though as i found when testing them some cars drove very differently to others - i picked the best one and went from there
-
haha ok mate,
thank you very much for all your help on this :-)
im sure we will talk again ....

I'm sure I seen a thread with the info I'm looking for but have search and can't find it so without installing a boost gauge where might my power peak be in terms of RPM on the stock 130?

Peak torque on a standard map is at approx 1900rpm. Peak power is at 4000rpm - there's a graph on my project thread showing a couple of runs when it was standard
Running the R-Tech spec 2 map peak torque is now at 2500rpm with peak power at approx 3100rpm
-
When's do you think the optimal shift might be then, around 4000rpm? I did have a look at your graphs but found them a little hard to comprehend. Making a little more sense now with a bit better understanding.
The Golf will probably take some getting used to for me, I’ve noticed the clutch slipping at high gears and a burning smell - I think I may have burned the clutch a little. I hope it was my driving and not the car but I was giving it a good hoofing. It certainly won’t last long post remap doing that but it’s hard to do such short shifts until you’re used to it and I just wanted to make sure everything is as it should be.
-
Standard map change up at 3000rpm
You'll find with the gear ratio's for 3rd, 4th and 5th it will drop you back to about 2000rpm, right in the meat of the torque :afro:
-
Spot on that has got to be why I was burning the clutch. I’m not used to the rev counter moving that fast
