Hi,
I have been thinking about this idea for a while. I would love to buy a Mk1 and restore it to as close to original as possible.
I have never restored a car before, but Im looking for a hobby and something I can learn from. I was looking for some advice as to how easy this would be for a newbie like myself and how much I would expect to spend?
Its just a dream at the moment but I would like to make it a reality sometime soon.

The biggest issue is now finding some of the parts needed, best bet is to start with the best base you can in terms of standard spec and go from there.

^as said, if your no good at welding/painting etc, can become costly if you buy the wrong "shell" as it were..
if you do, get a project page started
Dinx

i was in a similar situation to your self, so i ended up buying a good shell as that was the basis for my project, two years down the line and many decisions later i now have a helos blu lowered on porsche d90's with a new black mohair roof , new suspension, exhaust engine and interior i found most of the stuff on ebay and on the mk1forum, dont be afraid to dive in to the unknown as long as the basis of the car are sound its all good fun and a good learning curve

Been having a look about to see whats for sale. Starting to seriously consider the idea  (and my girlfriend thinks it sounds good too)
Is there anything else I should look out for other than rust on the body? (Im not looking for a cab btw)
bad-vw-boy - how much have you spent on your mk1 so far?
