Title: cat / decat
Post by: christianduncan on 15 June 2009, 19:26
hi,

ive got a friend who has a golf gti mk5 red line.  its only a 06 plate and only just out of warranty however the replacement cat is £800 for VW.  were going to appeal it and see if we can "blag" one out of them however i dont think this is going to be likely.  does anybody know were we can find a decat for it at reasonable money?

many thanks

Try ebay for a downpipe...

Be aware that the car will not pass it's MOT without a cat.

Milly downpipe and sports cat fitted at any "decent" place at normal rates will be between £600 - £650.

won't free up much bhp, but it does free up the mid-range quite a bit as the air can flow through quicker

if its anything like Alan's Milltek it will sound

It will sound a million times better (its what I have on mine and really does sound nice ;) ) As for performance increase, your looking around 10ish bhp (give OR take) for the full turbo back system. As Rhyso said, it frees up mid range and will give you better throttle response. A larger CAI (cold air intake, induction kit, whatever you want to call it) will compliment the larger downpipe and as its less restrictive and allows the car the breath better.
