Title: Fitting a chip
Post by: carlos85 on 15 June 2009, 10:39
I've got a ecu chip that i would like to fit, but when i've opened up my ecu there is two chips that can be replaced. One is on the main board and the other is on a small board. Which is the one i replace?

Thanks :)

Doesnt the ignition module sit on top of the ecu?

They have quite a large size difference tho.

the chip goes on the main board.

some digifant2 2 ecu's have 1 chip some have 2 .   most places used to put a blanck chip in the 2nd socket.  may be abel to tak erht e chip out and just leave it empty possobly

well i had a look at the chips on beavis digifast before he killed it.

it once was a two chip ECU,   the eprom on the main board had the same amount of data on it as the eproms from te singel eprom ecu's and the 2nd eprom on the daughter board was blank

reason for that is to make it a 2 letter code ecu instead of one..

oh and ive not killed it, the chip seems to be OK still

i just wondering dose the 2nd chip have to be there, obviously if the 2nd chip is present and has data on it'll bugger everything up.  but  empty v's no chip dose it make a differane ?

don't think so

surely theres no point to removing the 2nd chip?

the chip you replace on when you buy these 'higherpeaks' +6hp chips is the one on the MAIN board, beneath an H shaped white plastic holder/cover. theres a specific orientation to the chip denoted by a notch.

thats what we were trying to work out if the 2nd chip did anythign in std form,   looks liek it's allways blank then   ok thats optimal just leave it allone

now im trying to work out which chip i have fitted ('performance' or OE), as neither had any markings on them as far as i know.... the one in my hand is blank...

i know i took the 'performance' one back out when it started pinking but not sure whether i stuck it back in...  :undecided:

you can normaly tell by the numbers

the std chips are a 27c64 ( it'll be in the manuafacturers  part number on the chip ) but 27c256 chips are nigh on inpossible to locate now so the performance chip is quite likely to be a 27c128 or 27c256  ( most common as they are still redialy avalible )

if there both 27c64's  i chould read them for you and mark them
