OK I have done my searches but to no avail - help still needed.
I have a genuine VW wiring loom for electric windows (and all the other bits to fit electirc windows) BUT
Where do I connect the main red power connector on the fuse box?
Where do I connect the two black and yellow wires that come frome the relay?
I know someone out there has the answer!
Ta!
P.S Obviously no electirc windows fitted as standard to my car??

where is your hazard switch, dash or column?

On the steering column RJ - full spec 91, J 8v PB five door.

right the black/yellow wires both go to pin D/9 or D/11, and the red wire goes to a pin on the Y plug (set of 4 spade terminals) There will also be an earth, this goes into the earth clap above fusebox, or anywhere to chassis.
see my fusebox FAQ for more info, in the garage section :)
To get into the D plug you either need to get dow nthe scrappy and hack out a plug from a MK3 or passat, pop out a wire & splice, or yuou might be lucky and find a spare black wire coming out the D plug already. Live is easy, just crimp a spade on and push it into place :)

Thanks RJ - still not sure what it all means???
I will have to find some time to study the Bentley fuse/relay panel diagram, your wiring list in the garage section and the wiring diagrams in the Haynes.
Hopefully all will at some stage become clear.
Cheers - you're a star as usual.

I am trying to do the same task. 91 golf gti 8v. Fitting the electric windows I bought for my old car, what does the relay do? There wasnt one in the old car, I just connected to the 12v and earth that were already in place. In the new car I intend to use the fusebox connections as VW intended and join the switch lighting wire to the dash lights circuit. Will this work?

thats the prob with 90spec, its more fiddly to add accessories like this! pre-90 just has a load of spades on the back you can splice into, simples.
If you check out the FAQ there is a picture of the rear of the fusebox, D/9, D/11 means plug D, pin 9 or pin 11. As I say you'll probably have a spare black wire hanging off the D plug, check its ign live and if so splice into that! On mine what I did was go down the scrappy and chop a D plug out of a MK3 Golf, along with the wire from it to a jumper block above the fusebox in the dash somewhere.
These jumper blocks are well handy, you plug your supply wire in then you have 3 spare pins ready for plugging in accessories :)
andy the relay is switched from the ign live, so as to provide a good switched live feed to the motors. there arnt many good ign live sources with enough juice to run the windows direct, the blower fan switch is once exception but then you might have trouble running the windows if the blower was on as well!

Cheers Jonny. Your answer explains why the switch lights were permanantly illuminated, must have used a constant live wire as the source.
Will check the FAQ for relay details.
Thanks, Andy

yeah that would do it, from the factory the lights should come on with the ignition, but you could splice the bulb wires to a dash light feed (blue/grey) to have them come on with the light switch if you prefer.
