I ordered my GTI at 10 am on May 1st, the very first day VW France were taking orders. I was given a provisional delivery date of August 18 and, six weeks on, my dealer has confirmed this date. A 3.5 month wait seems a bit excessive to me, especially as I must surely have been one of the first people in France to order, but maybe it's the same for everyone else?
How long are UK buyers being asked to wait?
-
When I test drove mine last week or so, I was told a 12-16 week wait.
-
So basically, the changes they made to the Golf so it doesn't take as long to build as the mk5 are, er, not working? :undecided:
-
I note there are several MK6 GTI's for sale already on Autotrader..... I guess these are VW demo cars which the dealers have chosen to sell rather than placing as Demo.
So in essence if anyone is desperate for one now and can find a similar spec to what you're after you could almost get into one straight away!

Oh right, so more or less the same as here then. I change cars every year or so and always order 'custom-built', but this is the longest I've ever had to wait and I thought the Golf was one of the more common cars on the road...
It is ironic that the Mk6 was designed to be easier/cheaper to build than the 5.

When i was shopping around the vw dealers looking for the best deal i could get on my new gti,i was told by one dealership that vw shutdown for 6 weeks, one salesman said it was now the other said in aug,Could this be the reason for such a long wait ?,i ordered mine on may 22 they say aug delivery, nothing in stone yet. Seems abit daft shutting down when new car sales have plummented, surely this would lead to faster delivery.
-
.......i was told by one dealership that vw shutdown for 6 weeks..........
I was told it was only 3 weeks when I ordered mine, still looking at 10-12 weeks.

Sorry to bring up dead wood here but can I ask did you actually have to wait 12-16 weeks like you thought or did it arrive sooner?
-
You will be better off asking a new question as things have changed since 2009-2010
For example I ordered start of Aug 09 was told delivery in Nov 09 and did not get delivery until end mar 10
Things have changed better to ask a new question and people who have ordered recently and just collected their car will reply.

I ordered my GTD on the 25th Oct and didn't take delivery till the 1st March so in all it was around 16wks just over 4mnths...
But plenty on here have waited MUCH LONGER! 7mnths plus ect...
-
I can't believe your getting so twitchy after a week! if your that worried it'll only make the wait longer, as with Mr GTD i ordered mine october 09 (can't remember the date) but took delivery in April 10 so roughly 6 months.
-
During my wait I had no car at all cus I got offered a better p/x if I gave my car straight away, so for 4mnths and a bit I had to get lifts
It was a total nightmare, I missed driving so much!!!

6 months for a Skoda Yeti your having a laugh there!!
-
To be fair when I ordered it they said it would take around 10 months if I wanted the pan roof, they had ordered one as a demo in March '11 and it still hadn't landed.

Tbh I've not called them, they keep sending me email updates to inform me that the build date has been put back and put back and put back
Good that they keep you informed, I'm hoping it will be here for September as Mrs Doc has taken command of my GTD until it lands.....

Oh god! I'm never going to see that RNS!
-
If I had my way you'd already have the rns and the gtd would be down the road

When I was ordering my work car last year in April I was told 10 months for an A3 S-line, 7 months for a GTD and 10 weeks for the Leon FR to my spec, hence my choice.
IMO the lead times were ridiculous and I was advised down to the manufacturers servicing the demands of the Chinese market first, LHD Europe next and the UK last, how true this is I have no idea mind.
-
Ordered mine mid dec 2011 and arrived mid march e.g. Just about 3 months....
-
I ordered mine on the 25/01/2012.
Car arrived at the dealers on 07/06/2012.
Pickup date is 13/06/2012.
So that’s 20 weeks (140 days).
I think they said 16-20 weeks when I ordered it, so that pretty spot on.
-
I ordered my Gti early May and was quoted 12-15 weeks.
Recently said it will be built week 25 so around 6 weeks

i can understand why people want to order a new car 100% to their own spec but...
all of my local VW dealerships have at least 1 ed35 in the showroom/in stock.
you could probably get a deal on these without the tedious wait.
they're always good specs too when they get them in as showroom cars.
i didn't wait for mine got £1500 of the price and 3 years free servicing and a few bits and pieces. theres no way i would have bought a gti if i had to wait for it but luckily the car i bought was pretty much as i would have spec'd it so it as worth getting for me.

Side note lol, mkviken your spec list is filling up very nicely..

 I feel a retrofit coming on, but with the hassle others have had, is it really worth it?

i thought about it but can't bring myself too start pulling the headlining etc apart. I'm uber paranoid about squeaks and rattles as it is so don't want to mess around with interior trim
the main reason i wanted it was so my steering wheel no longer has buttons that don't work!
