i need some tyres for the golf, going to get them around the middle of july so i have some time to choose, i have toyo t1rs tyres on it at the mo and they are pretty worn but still good in the dry.
in the wet its a different story, i have to feed the power in slowly or it just spins and spins, all the way up through 3rd gear!
however i would consider these again as they are really good in the dry, but ihave also been looking at yoko`s and others.
now i can get a set of either yokos or toyos from a garage in maccelsfield, which is pertty far from me but i get to drive on one of the best briving roads in the north west (cat and fiddle).
i can get either fitted for just less than £130, which sounds pretty good to me (195 50 15`s)
anyone got any suggestions? ideally i just want the grippist tyres i can buy sub £200?

yokos are worse in the wet than toyos, but about the same in the dry. rainsports are the best in the wet, but not as good in the dry. eagle f1's are the best overall but you might struggle to find anywhere with them still in stock
your tyres must be bald to be spinning them in 3rd :laugh:

mk2 section has a LOT of threads on tyres,
pop in, you will see one currently on page one,
or if your search you might find the others on page3, 5 ,7 , 9, 11 , 15 etc etc :wink:

for around £50 a corner you'll get some semi resonable boots, t1r's arn't amazing but there bloody good value for money and are ok in the wet and dry, not tryed the uniroyals but avons are progressive and good in the wet, yoko pradas are good road tyer as well bit more grippy in the dry than the toyo i think but if you take them on track they overheat a bit quick unlike the toyo.
some khumos can be good in the wet and dry but i think the more sport orintated ones wear out to quick for what they are.
problem is compareing tyers is that everyone uses a diffrent measureing stick so you cant get a true comaprison unless all the ppl have had all the diffrent tyers whitch never happens ( except for the nutters on cut slicks )
i knwo from ppl that have had both that yoko a048's are better than toyo r888's for dry track work , they grip a bit better in the dry but don't tolerate the damp as well. they last longer but cost a fair bit more but problem with tyers like those is finding places that sell them :( so overall there much of a muchness

the best tyres that i have had so far are the falken 452's they grip well in the dry and grip well in the wet aswell, the next best tyres that ive had were hankook evo v12's although there wore out after 7k not quite as good as the falkens but ok for the price, my current tyres are fate's and they are shyte especially in the wet there was more grip with the falkens that had about 1.6mm of tread than the almost new fates in the wet, i am replacing the fates with falkens as soon as they wear out :wink:

Fulda or BFGoodies all the way, great on the MK2.
Got Mongolian tyres on the Mk3 cos it handles like porridge shame to waste a good tyre lol :wink:

yeah the fronts are pretty bald and its 3 points a corner! might stick with the toyos and get them a bit sooner than i thought! :smiley:

Pzero-nero's sticky and glue not really for daily driving but great for weekends around corners with no brakes! :laugh:

I only liked the old skool ones in the F1 range the newer ones weren't so grippy!

Got Goodyear Eagle F1's on all corners, and never had a problem, or a dodgey moment.
