Title: high engine oil temp

Hi any one done any mods to keep the oil temp down looking to fit an oil cooler on a early mk2 8v gti for track days last time on the track oil temp was at 112.c
Any info or advice what to go for was looking at fitting a mk1 oil cooler but do they fit ?

You on K-Jet or Digifant?

It may be that the K-jet is running super-lean - I've not had ANY issues with the oil temp in my 8V and that's been thrashed repeatedly.

You want either an early Golf1 GTI filter head, with cooler off-take, or a sandwich plate and Mocal-type cooler, with some pipes and a bit of bracketry.

Hi its a k-jet system water temp is ok but engine oil temp on track is soon up to over 100.c.  water temp is ok on the move normal driving but in traffic and at idle fans are cutting in lot of the time just wondering if the rad or thermostat or even water pump needs changing as the engine is a bit tired on 133,000mls looking on ebay at a mk1 gti 1800 oil cooler but don't know if it will fit a mk2 1800 8v this might cure the high oil temp but don't know if the oil pump will take the extra strain.

Same block, so the cooler should fit, BUT you need to keep the water-sandwich or you'll lose the early oil warm-up from that.

High oil temperature is a symptom, not a problem. What's your oil pressure on track? 

If you're on the original waterpump and stat I would suggest you change them and the cambelt at the same time.  The pump on my GU died at just over 100k.  Change it - it's not worth killing your engine over.

If you're using the car on track a lot, consider getting a wide-band lambda mounted in the downpipe and a gauge in the car, to understand what your mixture is doing, especially at high-revs.  It'd be a shame to lose the engine just because it's knocking at high revs and you're not hearing it.

Not sure on the oil pressure will try and fit a gauge when the cooler is put on.

112 is not that high for oil temp, esp in an enigne working hard.         oil wants to be above 100 degrees else you get mayo,   oil temps are allways above water temps water temp gan get to 105 quite easy.     125+  oil temps shouls get worrying
