Post by: GLENNGTI on 12 June 2009, 08:36
Hi all,
Just got rid of my mk2 and got my first ever mk3!!!!  1998 2l 8v.
The annoying thing is its limiter is set at 5000rpm   how can I set this to 6000 or remove?? and where does it limit from ??
Also elec fans not coming on where is the thermo switch  the one I found was right hand side but I think thats for the air con???
Thanks

The rev limit should be 6k, if it is 5k then the timing is out.

Your car is in "safe" mode! Timing issue!

You cannot adjust the rev limiter! It is part of the ECU and can only be changed by a remap.

yep timing. It's quite possible that the timing belt has been fitted a notch out from TDC.

had the same problem, phase angle needed slight adjustment.
