Post by: albertz21 on 11 June 2009, 19:36

hiya got my car back on the road all going well with new engine until i have been told today i have thrust bearing going in it the noise is there when engine running and goes when clutch ir pressed to floor so m question is where can i get this bearing is it thrust bearing or called a release bearing ?  also where do i get the replacement green cover for the side of the box as mechanic said to get one in case he damages it by removing it to replace bearing

thanks for looking

hopefully get pics of car up soon

The green cover and bearing are both available from VW.

I did this relatively easy job a few weeks ago due to suffering from the exact same noise and symptoms......IT'S STILL THERE!!

yeah that generally isnt the release/thrust bearing, as there is only load on it when you press the paedl. Its worth a try as its easy to swap, but dont count on it fixing the issue!
this is a symptom of a bearing inside the gearbox that has gone, if you look after it it should last a good while though.

Yeah that's what i thought and admitedlly it's been like it for at least a year or so withou any problems apart from the wurring noise occasionally. I look after my motors and have changed the gearbox oil to synthetic a while back so hope for it to not last without any detrimemental effects till i get my 16v.
