Post by: akaruben on 11 June 2009, 14:00
Hi, I recently bought a mk3 R-reg '98. All the induction kits or air filters etc I look at on ebay say mk3, but mk1 91-97.. will these still fit dya think or do I just need to look harder? Cheers

They stopped production of the MK3s in 1997. Yours must be a late registered Mk3

yep hitachi maf and don't fit an induction kit unless your giving it a really good cold air feed...drill the airbox and fit a panel filter instead

I just drilled my airbox and completly removed the 90degree (original air intake angle) off it and ran a Cold Air Feed Directly into the box with some gauze to stop birds gettin in lol...

It sounds alot nicer and it seems to be more responsive (on my 8v gti)

I'll get sum pics up sooooooon.

Id be up for a bit of this drilling and panel filtering tbh. Sounds cheap and better :) anyone know of a post which has maybe diagrams on how to do it, etc. Im not stupid, but not a hardcore car person either. Dont wanna mess it up :p

I have noticed a bit of an increase in performance aswell, It feels more responsive now. in All Gears.

Panel Filter (piper cross) drilled box, cold air feed direct into box.

Go 4 the Panel filter. Least then u can drill the box and if u dont want toooooooooo much noise then dont drill loads of holes, all depends on how u want it sounding. only drill the bottom of the air box on the drivers side. (i did)

Nice one. I saw the thread of how to drill etc. Looks like something even I can manage. Has anyone done a thread on DIY'ing a cold air feed?
