Why would they be stamped BBS then if they are not genuine, look like very good copies if not genuine.

Seen this earlier. Looks like a scammer.

The auction had a buy it now price, then was listed as an auction with 99p start, then was bid on, then price reset to 99p again...

Smells of a scam, I doubt the wheels exist, copies or genuine.

If you wanted to flog fake BBS wheels, wouldn't you stamp BBS into them!??

Why would they be stamped BBS then if they are not genuine, look like very good copies if not genuine.

How does this tell you its a scam??

The seller may have listed them as a Buy-It-Now and realised he had little interest - hence decided to list them as an auction to see what they go for.
Someone bid on item. Seller did not feel the buyer was genuine, and cancelled the b id. Hence price drops back to 99p.

All easily explainable.

That still leaves the initial question - how do you know they are fake?

True, it's possible. I'm still not getting my barge poll out.

I think Philip from PW Motorsport has seen enough BBS wheels in his time to spot fake ones!

The price is generally a good indication, is the seller on the www.bbs.com site?

The detailing on the wheel is very different to the genuine BBS.
1. The Genuine CH does not have this fitting badge
2. The markings on the rear of the wheel are incorrect
3. The center bore and spigot ring fittment is different
4. The finish on the wheel is poor, casting flaws etc

I've emailed the seller asking if I can go and take a look at them so I can check the authenticity etc before I bid.

We'll see what he replies with ;)
