Title: Problems locking car with key - since last night

Hi guys,

Can someone please help.  I've had my GTI for 4 months now (09 reg) and last night we had quite heavy rain.

This morning the car unlocked but when I got out of the car the stereo didn't turn off when the key was removed and the buttons on both keys won't lock the car... I have to use the key in the door (how very 1980's!!).

Do I need to take the car into VW or is there something I can do to sort it out?

Something similar happened to mine but it was a very frosty, cold winter night - never happened since so didn't bother going the stealers (plus if problems are intermittent they are useless at diagnosing)

If the problem is still there I would take it in unless you know someone with VagCom that can help take a look - as it's under warranty I would go with the first option.  Other quick option is to check the fuse box, see if any are gone

I would take it straight back in to the dealer.

Sounds like the switch in the ignition barrel still thinks the key is in there and wont let you lock it.  (remote locking is interlocked with the ignition switch).  And for the same reason hasn't switched the radio off...

Thanks for the info guys... but it seems to have fixed itself!!!!!  If it happens again I'll definitely take it back to the dealers.

take it to the dealers anyway.  I think it will have thrown up a fault code.

I had the ignition switch contacts replaced on mine yesterday, (57 Ed30) it was randomly activating the Central Locking whilst driving, and usually would not unlock the car when the key was removed from the barrel.  All sorted now.
The service manager did say that he had seen this before, and in the extreme would randonly switch the engine off, not a good scenario.

Had this problem a few months ago ,drove me crazy!
             Changed battery in keyfob , cured the problem .
