Not good, cos:
Date of test: 28/11/2008
Certificate issued (Pass)
Odometer reading: 124,290 Miles
Test number:
Test station name: MCS GARAGE SERVICES UK LTD
Test station number:
Test station telephone number:
Test class: IV
Test expiry date: 27/11/2009
Advisory Notice issued
Nearside Rear Bonded suspension unit deteriorated but can function as intended (2.4.F.3)
Offside Rear Bonded suspension unit deteriorated but can function as intended (2.4.F.3)
6 days later and it passed, and afew days later after that i bought the car. Very odd indeed, car was from a dealer btw (dodgy dealer now I know)
Anyway, looking at the big fail list from the first test, I need some clearing up.
Ive sorted out most of it (by pure coincidence).
Ive got new tyres on there, new top mounts, new wishbone bushes and new balljoints (Fail from previous MOT), and the "Front Windscreen washer provides insufficient washer liquid (8.2.3)" Im guessing it was because there wasnt any water in the windscreen washer tank, cos I get plenty of water to the wishscreen. Also I checked both rear wheels and they spin freely, with no binding at all.
But I want to know what the following mean:
Steering system has excessive free play detected at the steering wheel (steering rack fitted) (2.2.A.1b)
I cant feel any play in the steering wheel
Nearside Rear Radius arm rubber bush deteriorated but not resulting in excessive movement (2.4.G.3)
Offside Rear Radius arm rubber bush deteriorated but not resulting in excessive movement (2.4.G.3)
and then from the last MOT pass (the 6 days later) it was this advisories:
Nearside Rear Bonded suspension unit deteriorated but can function as intended (2.4.F.3)
Offside Rear Bonded suspension unit deteriorated but can function as intended (2.4.F.3)
I know the rear bump stops in the suspension are buggered, is that the meaning of the advisories?
Anyone shed any light on what the bits i put in bold mean?

i was never good at maths  Anyway the dealer had said the previous owner, a "close" friend of his aparently had been using the car for months wthout problem, he had part exchanged it in for a merc, hence why the golf was for sale.
Ah well you live and learn, now I know one more thing to check in detail

They didnt drive it much in 3 months! (10 miles)

Rear bushes are a common advisory/fail. A pig to change but the bushes themsleves are pretty cheap.

Would make me suspicious actually as that probably means the MOT place is 5 miles away! Southampton cant be any different to around here and I could get to 5 inside 1 mile from my house!
