well i want to fit coilovers
but... its not that easy, my front drivers side jacking point does not like being jacked up at all
so with jacking it up i cant really do it.
but i need to :undecided:
so i rang up a garage and for fitting they wanted £200+vat
(this is a vw specialist we're talking about)
so is there any way round this?

Use a bit of wood to distribute the weight over an area when jacking it up.
Use the widow maker if you dare......
-
Yes look under the car and where the wishbone mounts jack it there (not on the wishbone), I always do it that way.
-
i dont use a widow maker
many bad experiences, so got myself a decent jack:)
so not on the wishbone, on the wishbone mounts?
is this a straight swap job?

Yes on the wishbone, reference fitting them, my fitting guide is in this thread http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=68845.0

Where's Kettering?
I fit coilovers for my mates all the time, only charge them 30 quid
-
by northamptonshire if you know where that is matey
-
you could always use a jack and a piece of wood and jack it from the front cross member...ive do it all the time on my mk3 and its more rotten than a pear...
edit - realistically (if you know what your doing) you just need the front wheels of the ground, also once you jack it just shove a set of axel stands on the chassis rail somewhere and remove the jack, even more safe then
-
yeah i'll give that a go:)
put axle stands on or something to

He means jack on the subframe mount. You can use an axle stand on the subframe as well.
Never jack on the car body, jacking point, sills, without using a piece of wood.
-
yeh just jack from the front cross member (near the front engine mount) with a piece of wood (to make it go higher and plus you dont want the jack plate/cup to dig into the cross member - has happen to me on another car,not funny lol) and put the axel stands where the subframe mounts the chassis rails...
-
okay quality:) cheers
