Title: Car park door 'dinks'
Post by: mafri on 10 June 2009, 07:32
People are such inconsiderate b@@@@...

I returned to my car in the station car park last night to find two (yes, as if one wasn't bad enough) dents in the front passenger door. They are small but positioned in a place that catches the light, so it looks like someone with a fat backside and no appeciation of a nice car next to them will cost me cash to get them repaired. Fortunately, the paint doesn't appear disturbed.

Does anyone have any experience of using a dent removal company (or similar) for this kind of thing? Anything to look out for, or avoid? I am in the Southampton area if that helps.

Thanks

Contact your local body shop for a recommendation. I've used one before and as long as the paint isn't broken or the metal actually stretched they should come out no problem.

I can't help with a recommendation as I'm in the North but there should be several companies in your area. The trick is to get the best one.

I always take 2 bays or try to park nose to bumper instead of side by side. Always avoid any car with 4 doors and child seats

I always avoid cars with baby seats inside! especially people carriers.
I sometimes think is it worth me having a GTi, as I only tend to go out for drives in it-rather than to any such place as I just worry about where I park it!
When I've gone to Brighton, they really don't care WHO they bump to park up!
Don't you just wanna catch these people when it happens!?, whats the law on claiming for it?
Hope you get it sorted.

So far, in my GTI I have managed to avoid any....I park as far from the madding crowd as possible or if not possible I go over two bays.

One time I parked in the corner of a near empty ASDA car park only to come back to a near empty ASDA car park except for one twit actually parked beside me! I very nearly dinged his car for his effing stupidity! I wish I had taken a picture as evidence.

Used to happen all the time to my last car, an Audi A6

If the paint isnt broken you can use the services of a local dent guy just to push out from behind. I have a number of a great guy in Glasgow, if there is anyone local in the same position as the OP.

I have had dings like what you describe taken out very sucessfully using a local dent removal company, generally they are ok at this sort of minor bodywork repairs

cheers

I do this too, and like you say you pick a spot with lots of empty spaces and you come back and despite all the empty spaces someone has parked really close to your car.  WTF?

thanks for the feedback guys - will try and find a decent paintless dent removal place near me.

I also park well away from the masses to stop this sort of thing happening - but actually think it might cause problems, as who else do you know who seeks out empty parts of the car park...?

People who can't park their cars properly....!

Although, the spaces in the train station car park are tiny - if anyone parks a x5 or something in a space, it just doesn't fit. I'm sure it means they get a few extra spaces in the car park, so they get more cash in and we get our cars bashed!

I've often been a victim of carpark ignoramouses(sp) too.
I now tend to park over two spaces in free car parks. Get plenty of dirty looks but I'm sure those who glare at me wouldn't be rushing to give me £40 every time I get a sodding dent.

I acquired a strange one last year, still have it on my drivers door. Parked my car up in a big gap on the seafront, side on against the kerb, went off to have a walk/shopping, got back and found a nice dent in my door. The only thing I could think of that could have done it was one of those tractor train thingys that provides extortionately priced rides up and down the sea front for kids/fatties/old people. Must have pulled up to let some passengers off and one of them must have opened their door right onto my car.

I was once venting my spleen about why people insist on parking near my car in an emptyish car park one day at a family get together and my brother in law came up with the reason why this happens: He said '' I often park next to another car as it gives me something to line up against as I reverse into the space'' Aaaaaaarrrrgh!!!!!

I'll admit I used to park my old fezza near a newish car (this was like for a month after I started driving) because I knew the new car owner would be careful with not wanting to dent their car. Plus if a thief was gonna steal one, I'd hoped he'd steal the nice one.

Kinda stopped when I realised not everyone who has a new car wants to look after it (was entering a car park and noticed some muppet scratch his own car whilst trying to get out of the car park).

I had a dent in the middle of my bonnet which completely ruined the car for me. I didn't do anything to it for about six months and lost the love for my car until eventually called a guy out I found on the internet. I wasn't sure it was repairable but now there's not a sign of where the dent was.

I live near the bottom of the M25 and I know he came up from the South to me, not sure if he'll go as far as Southampton but I can highly recomend him if he will. Try www.fixadent.co.uk.

Working at a supermarket is a pain in the arse, so far its dent free, have recieved a new scratch recently which pisses me off.

Looks more like one of the kids has done it with a bike or scooter when its been parked on the street.

I always try to park in a parent and child space although I tend to get reported as I get a few looks from parents as I leave the car. If people were not so inconsiderate I wouldnt have to do it.

thanks for all your help guys - got it done today by Dentex (North Baddesley, Southampton). Great job in only a couple of hours, can't see where the dents were at all - £65.

Went down to Lakeside today.
Was the only car in the carpark who had taken up 2 parking spaces.
When I was walking back to my car I could see people driving by and pointing at my 'stupidity', as they struggled to find a space.
Nevertheless, I was pround of my actions, and would do it again.

I know exactly where the scratches and dings are on my car and find myself pointing them out to people. I've become very sad like that. I really need to get some of them fixed
