out of my 16v GTi?
without pissing any police off with a rediculously loud car hehe
(please no comments like "drop a VR lump in it", sensible suggestions thanks)

Quickest, cheapest and easiest option is to either drill the hell out of the lower section of your airbox or whack an induction kit on. That followed by a larger bore exhaust pipe, preferably with a 4 branch mainifold and you should be well on your way to getting more pleasing sound from your motor.
-
Failing that fit a siren or dixie horn on the roof.
-
get yourself an induction kit and custom exhaust mate if you want a nice sound
with the custom exhaust they make it sound just how you want
-
Get an exhaust system, but not a loud one, just a tastful one. Preferable not straight through, but cat back.
Then an ok induction kit, maybe even a BMC Carbon one.
Then it will sound tasteful, but not "BURRRRRRR change BURRRRRRR change BURRRRRRRRRRR"

BURRRRRRRRRR CHANGE BURRRRRRRRRRR IS BETTER THAN BWARGHHHHHHHHHH CHANGE BWARGHHHHHHHHHH or is Bwargh the same as Burr just more pedal, either way my powerflow sounds cool not too loud and only hits the axle when ive got people in the back
-
mine just goes BRRRRRRAP BRRRRRRRRRRAP BBBBBBRRRRRRRRRAAPPP
-
Mine (MKii) goes bwaaaaarrrr, raaaasssssssssp, change, pop pop pop bang, bwwwaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrr, raaaaaaaaaaassssp, change, pop pop, bang.
I love it, my wife hangs her head in shame.

take the roof off ;) my cabby pulling through 3500-6250rpm (peak power) in a tunnel is awesome... it'll pull hard to 6600rpm but there's a lot of satifaction in that mid-range too!
combination of induction kit and full stainless exhaust will do the job.... try something like a Milltek Cat-back first (with decent filters in the regular box) - that'll give u a nice burble... you can drill the airbox for a cheap alternative adn then induction starts to give the "loud pedal" it's name....
top tip for avoiding the police... live in London... they spend all their time stopping cars with tinted windows, slammed rides, spinners, dodgy LED setups, bodykit and body panel distorting sub-woofers, etc... not interested in lil ole me making an itty bit more "braaaaaaaaap" noise when I pull off..

Thats cos the engine mounts and rear shelf make enough noise to cover up the dealer laughing all the way to the bank with your money, bit like the MK4
Still if you listen closely you can hear the MK3 rust

no the whole car lol. Ive got 2 tiny little chips (bout the size of a grain of rice each) in the paint were the door was rubbing when it was saggy. Thats about it, just need a spot of paint and thats it!
