clean your throttle body out with some carb cleaner and a tooth brush or something... and check your vacuum hoses on the throttle body, I'm in the process of replacing some hoses and gunna clean the throttle body, so i hope my issues are sorted aswell. (mine arnt tooooooooo bad tho) just want to keep on top of it really.

Sounds similar to the issues that I had, in the end I had to replace the AFM.  Try disconnecting it to see if it makes a difference....

I think he means Air Flow Meter... if not then check that too!

mine had a similar problem, it turned out to be the water temp sensor.

goodluck.

Mass Flow meter, Air Flow Meter, Mass Air Flow, Air Consumption Meter...etc etc etc. All correct names for the same thing.

More stuff that might come in handy on the same idling issues.

I had the same issues with my car 8v GTI and it turned out to be a small air leak on the inlet manifold gasket.
took it to 2 garages before they found the problem, i also had really bad mpg as when the engine was hot the lamba senser was flat lining and dumping extra fuel in to compensate. Got the garage to replace the inlet and exhaust gaskets and it cure it.

Even with the slight hunting my car is running at 92c @ 80Mph with 43mpg. Is that good?
