the black paint (brilliant black) on my mk3 gti is dull and has a few tiny sratches in it, and I was wondering if the Meguiar's Deep Crystal 3 Step System Clenear/Polish/Wax was a good set of products to bring it back to its former glory or if you could reccommend anything else. thanks

That may help a little but has very little abrasives in it and so may not help with the dull paint so much. You best choice if doing it by hand is Meguiar's Ultimate Compound, then get a good layer of wax on there, the wax depends on how much you want to spend, a few good one's are Meg's Tech Paste Wax, Collinite, or any of the Dodo range.
Hope that helps,
Chris

Sorry to hop onto the thread, but ive also got a black golf with pretty poor paintwork. Im sure a few panels have been resprayed (probably from a can) and you can see the fine spray speckles. Can these be buffed/smoothed out? Or is it a case of living with it/respray?
Again, sorry for hijacking ;)

Without seeing it, it's hard to say what to do. Have you ever clayed a car? That could get rid of some of the overspray. I would definately say try this first, do the whole car and you will be amazed at the results.

Thats my plan once ive finished my exams. A full detailing, definitely needs a good claying. Stupidly left it under a tree, for one night. Came back to it and found more sap, sh!t and leaves on it than... ...something with alot of sap, sh!t and leaves. Can't wait to give it a full day of TLC.

Any recommendations on good clays to use?
