Title: 8v gti loom problems..
Post by: jamie_pyrite on 08 June 2009, 18:11
Hi all, so basically I'm doing a gti conversion on my 91 Jetta. I've got the engine and everything sat in the garage and bought a wiring loom that I was told was for an 8v digi and that the hazard switch was on the steering column (indicating 90 spec, right?)

Well what I've received appears to be pre 90 spec! The fusebox plugs are massive and have tons of pins on them, compared to the 90 spec fusebox which has different plugs.

Anyone know what's happened here? He said he's pretty sure the steering column had the hazards on, but he sold that so long ago (breaking) he's not 100% sure! :p

I've checked the ECU section of the loom and it all seems to match up correctly to work with the 8v digi so it seems that I should be able to use that?

I posted this on ClubGti if it helps? A bunch of pics of my loom.. So basically, what can I do with this loom and is it 100% pre-90 spec? He says the car was an 89 digifant but the 90 spec wiring actually started mid-89?

If it looks like this then it's pre 90:

I'd imagine it would be easier to just find a 90 spec loom, can't see it being that difficult or expensive :undecided:

Yeah, that's what mine looks like. Strangely, with the whole loom I only have one of the BIG plugs (it has 15 pins on). Are the others just lights, etc. so I'd only need that one?

the BIG plug is a connection between 2 halves of the dash loom. unless you like wire splicing the ecu loom is no use to you!
