Title: Going back to 4 stud
Post by: oakgreengolf on 07 June 2009, 19:37
Changed my engine over to the abf not to long back using the Toledo subframe and hubs etc. I'm now stuck with some audi pepperpots which I'm really not liking too much . Now I'd like to put my Ronals back on and revert back to 4x100 setup. The rear I can obviously just swap the discs, the fronts however I can't get my head around. Can it be done retaining the Toledo hubs?. Ive obviously got the bigger 280 calipers and the discs. I would like to keep the larger calipers if possible. Any help and advice in sourcing what I need greatly appreciated

can you order/fit the golf 4 stud wheel hub( the bit in the middle of the bearing) to the toledo bearing holder/upright ???

then just buy the 280mm 4 stud biscs from a G60 ??

is that simple or me being simple ???

there may be an offset issue,  iirc the depth of the bell is diffrent on 5 stud's  but not sure   worth checking before you start

you can swap hubs around but then you need to start re-drilling discs. Not 100% that 4 stud ones will go in 5 stud bearing housings, afaik its only been done the other way (5stud hub to 4 stud bearing carrier)

if you were to swap the entire bearing carrier back to a 4 stud item, you also need to swap the wishbones, anti-roll bars and drive shaftt/outer c/vs. reason is the 4 and 5 stud bearing carrier lower balljoint is offset differently, so fitting with 5 stud wishbones would result in wheel not being centred in the arch.

Then if you change wishbones you also have to change the anti roll bar as the pickup point is different 4-5stud :(

It's not looking too good then  No easier options available I take it. Do a lot of people stick with mk2 rack then when fitting an abf angine?

Man-up and find some nice 5x100 wheels - the whole bloody world uses them!

Includes Subaru Impreza unless I'm much mistaken.  There MUST be something better than your Ronals.  Have some imagination, boy.

the rack itself can be left, just the track rods that need swapping between wide & narrow track :)

I'm always keeping a look out but 5x100 bbs style alloys are not that common, and this is what I'm after. Unless I go for the mk3 vr6 ones which I might have to do
