Title: New Car - New Idea's
Post by: Hulmie on 06 June 2009, 11:36
Well, finally received my insurance payout today for me old Golf, got a deposit on a new one so thought it was time to get back to the drawing board.

One idea that i would like to put in place would be something i havent seen on a mk4 but may be wrong.

Basically a mk4 R-Line rear bumper fitted with a mk5 cente exit back box. Now i have taken into account i may need to cut the wheel well out and weld a plate in to give space for mounting the back box, however just would if you technical minded guys can think of any other problems i may come across, obviously id need a custom exhaust making up to join the mk5 R32 back box to the standard mk4 system.

can you guys think of anything else?

yeh have been thinkin about doing that, need to get a good pic of the back of the car on level ground and then try get a good pic of a R-Line rear bumper matched to it.

also something else i just thought was to try modify bottom half of a mk5 R32 rear bumper onto top half mk4 bumper, hmmm alot of work i think.

When searching for my car i veiwed a car with the spare tyre well cut out....  :undecided:

Spare wheel in the boot takes up a lot of your boot space

Or the other option the tyre weld spray stuff that knackers your alloys

Hence I went against that car

Just my 2p but items to consider

They'll only come out to you if you have a spare wheel or repair kit. ;)

On a side note, did you manage to salvage your red pipes, mate??

Be carefull with removing the spare wheel well it adds a lot of strength to the rear.

I've heard of this before, too.

How do they strengthen the 4 Mo-fo's, then? :undecided:

Not sure but they must add extra beams maybe.

yeh thats true and have read it before. would get round it by welding some strips of 12mm plate from one side of the car to the other to help combat this.

Not so much that but the strength you lose in a rear shunt.

mmm, good point, think bull bars on the rear would combat this.lol.

may have to do a bit of research based on this info.
