Hey guys, well, today is the one week anniversary of owning my MK5, and the problems have begun already,
The Exhaust system light comes on when the engine is on, the handbook says to drive slowly and take it to the garage, wondering if any of you have any idea what is causing it and what the solution is?
I do want to put a millitek exhaust on at some point, would this potentially take out the problem and also leave me with a nice looking/sounding exhaust?

Sadly it could be a multitude of things, most likely just a sensor thats up the duff. Does the car run any different? Missfiring or erratic idle?
Best bet would be to see if anyone near to you has VCDS to read the fault code thats stored on the cars ECU. If not pretty much any garage would be able to read the code and tell you what the recorded fault is.
Think the mk'5s are starting to get to 'that age' when things go wrong. Soon it'll be like the mk4 board in here. My car has a missfire, my car has a dodgy idle, my windows have dropped .......
A week old - any warranty?
------
Edit:
what that light means really is that there is an emmisions / fuelling / turbo system / air intake problem. So the issue is almost certainly not your exhaust per say

Not sure if it does come with any warranty, was just a Ford little village garage that were selling it. Think its a trip to teh local garage and get them to have a look at it on the diagnostics, though the place by me charges £30 to do it.

I would chance your arm at the garage you bought it from. Its not like its a sub £1k banger and I would think that if they ever want your business again -official warranty or not - they will deal with a fault thats occured after 1 week of ownership.

good news, garage has a 3 month warranty, so taking it in Monday morning to get it fixed,
All the way to Rugby...again, although it is a nice drive there, hopefully get it sorted,
Although now I want my new exhaust system!
