Title: engine bay clean up ideas? with pic's

been working on my engine bay last few days on me hour and half lunch breaks lol rush home strate to work on the thing

this is how it was when got car.......

then i cleaned it best i could......

then got to the spraying......

so as you can see by the pic's my rocker cover still in need of a spray as its going for the primered look at the momment lol but what colour do you think would suit it best? i was thinking iver same as the car or gun metal grey. your ideas and opinions would be[/b] great :)

cheers dude was planing on doing it same colour as the car but cant find the colour code for my car any where looked in boot by spare tyer doors bonnet the lot no sign of it so went for gun metal grey colour and glad i did now  :smiley:

lol i know what you mean its cleaner now but still bloody ugly lol hey if you lived local id be more than happy to have ago at cleaning your engine up.

nice job dude, what do you use to clean it? mines got oil everywhere from an old leak. Cheers

clean'd it with a product called gunk that hallfords sell mate good stuff but i litterally used the whole can tho lol it's only about a fiver dude then once clean i just sprayed most parts gloss black and the rocker cover gun metal  :smiley:

Ugly you say..! lol no i think even under the hood it's just simple good concise german engineering practices  :wink:  add to that there's room to work and attend to servicing with ease, a ten year old car remember with ten year old vehicle technology, all the better for that i say and moreso your glad it's VW and not one of the others..
Anyways apart from that i've never seen an 8valve GTI in that maroon colour!  
Great job there.. a bit of inspiration to do mine even..nice one

i think they only look ugly in comparison to modern engine bays because the modern ones have engine covers which hide the majority of the gubbins  :smiley:

lol i was abit lazy and cleaned around every thing but every thing was so easy to get to anyway didn't need taking apart. get youre self some GUNK dude you wont regret it  :smiley:

your very rite dude, for a ten year old bay its looks fine and the car has so much for ten year old car more than what my 02 plate saxo had.

i used gunk on my engine and it looks great, just warm up the engine (not too hot) spray it on, leave for 5-10mins, brush then just spray off, quick and easy!
