Gutted,
N/S outer CV has split, grease all over inside wheel and around hub/strut. Didn't see back of disc, got pi55ed off, dropped jack and dumped it near mechanics.
Found problem after getting a brake squeek in motion, slight vibration through steering wheel and judder under braking. Lifted car on jack, span wheel and found it was binding on disc and difficult to turn.
Yes d.shaft will need repairing / replaced. Can gaitor rubber on these be replaced?
But has this possibly warped the brake disc and stuffed the pads too?

The gaitor can be replaced, its a fairly easy job
-
Yes they can about £15 for the part not sure on how much labour
-
If I've noticed a rumbling could that be the CV itself is damaged inside? Can't see a massive amount of grease floating around, but what's the guideline on repair to these? It's done 600/700 miles since I think it was damaged.
With the brake juddering and binding when I span the wheel, are the brakes that side now foobared too?
-
There was me looking to get a spare key today among other bits 'n bobs.....
-
Not sure on the brakes :undecided:
How bad is the split?
Both sides where split on mine at the thin end, I ran it like that for about 4k. there would be grease on my wheels every week.

I believe the boot was damaged when that wheel bearing was replaced around 600/700 miles ago. Squeek 100% from that disc as it binds when I tried to spin wheel. So disc is warped?
Taking it to garage with my tail between my legs tomorrow. That boot can be repaired then? The brake squeek / judder thing got me more worried.
-
Just fit a new boot with new grease.
If the disc is warped then it will need to be replaced along with the pads
-
If that disc is goosed, can I just replace the one?
Hmmm
I'll have to replace pads both sides anyway so will perhaps do both discs...

Getting expensive

The car had that corner wheel bearing replaced just before I bought it which is when I'm guessing the d.shaft damage was done. I'm wondering now if there is an underlying problem somewhere:
What if caliper is seized (hence distorted disc)?
Is disc runout and the chirping noise associated with a poorly fitted wheel bearing?
Would anything related to these symptoms have stressed the CV joint, damaging that?
BTW Chirping noise disappears under braking, with "feedback" under braking through the car.

Its round at the garage now.
Just shy of 2 weeks ownership and I'm hit with this!
CV Gaitor is definitely shot - wheel is covered in grease!
If the wheel does not freely spin when raised off ground is chirping noise in motion a knackered disc or other issue such as driveshaft CV or bearing? Would ABS affect this spinning?
Bearing was replaced 600/700 miles ago.
Any experience/knowledge/guidance appreciated!
