hello
i have a mk3 1.4cl . i wanna get some new wheels for it , so i went down my local scrap yard and saw some lush wheels at a bargain price . they are four stud . i found a mk3 with no wheels and they would not fit over the the round bit . sorry for not knowing the technical terms . anyone know if there's anything i can buy to make them fit or advise any wheels ?

The term you were looking for was "the hub".
I take it that the mk3 you tried with no wheels was a for stud as well? easy mistake to make!
Iknow the centre bore for gti/vr6 is 53.1mm, not sure wat it is for non gti's

What car were they from.

if they wont fit over the hub then you're probably stuffed. however have a close look at the wheels, some have a spiggot ring in the middle that can be removed, if so you can possibly hammer these out and swap in a VW sized one.

just buy a 8 mill no hub centric spacer
