There is a strange knocking sound coming from my passenger side front wheel area.
It only appears to start after I've been driving the car for a bit, and is directly proportionate to the speed of the car, ie the knocking sound speeds up and slows down with the speed of the car.
I can feel the vibrations from it very slightly through the pedals and steering wheel.
Any suggestions as to what it might be?

Driveshaft?
-
Could be a drive shaft or a warped brake disc knocking against the caliper.
-
Thanks
I recon it's probably a drive shaft issue, and the knock that I can feel through the car is quite pronounced.
Could this be a bent drive shaft or what?
-
Probably just the CV joint. Look behind the wheel and see if there is any black grease being spread about.
-
Thanks alot man, I'll attend to this over the weekend and let you know how it goes.
-
Yeah I'm pretty sure that's what it is.
Can I just fill it up with grease again and seal up the cover, or do I need a new CV joint?
-
Cv joint would only knock when driving straight if its been exposted to crap, or the joint is excessively worn, my mate had this problem on his peugeot 205 gti, I'm pretty sure it was Not the drive shaft or the cv joint.... It was somethin else. cant remember now what it was i'll ask tho.
-
Not exactly. The CV joint will show up when you turn corners. It will be an irregular knocking noise, more when turning in one direction than the other, depending on which side is knackered. Unless the CV is completely knackered, you may not hear it in a straight line.
-
yeah sorry re read my reply and i meant to say, It wouldnt really knock driving straight unless its badlt worn, but would definately knock especially turning round (or on full lock) I dont think this is your problem i think its the same as my mates Pug 205gti.... i'll try find out what it was asap.
-
very unlikely to be a cv joint they knock from cold and vag ones very rarely get to the point where they knock in a straight line as they have normaly poped before then.
as you have been driveing for a while when it appears and then start to feel vibration i'd think it's more likely to be a brake disk or wheel bearing
