Title: hid lights

ok go easy with me lol i have a set of hid lights bulbs balast etc from a vauxhall omega i am wanting to know if they are easy to fit into my mk3 vr ? i have glass fronted lights in now not plastic ones so i am thinking heat shouldnt be a problem,is is just a case of running a 12 volt feed to them ? if it can be done is there a step by step guide that you could show me

Mk3 Golf VR6's should have H1 bulbs, so if the bulbs you have are H1's then they should fit.

Is the hid kit aftermarket or was it fitted to the Omega from factory?

I looked at fitting a factory fitted Audi A3 hid kit to my Mk3 Golf and it looked near enough impossible so I bought an aftermarket kit off ebay in the end.

If it's an aftermarket kit you've got then it should just be plug and play..

Plug and play kits off eBay are £60-£90, so best just to go for one of those...

That said (and as per previous comment), if the Omega ones are H1 (assuming the GTI-style two-part lights), then it should be possible albeit a bit more work....

I ran my H1 hid kit in my Hella quads but I've recently sold the Hella quads so still have the hid kit..

It's an 8000k kit, was only used for 1-2 months.. and I've safely put it back into its original box so it's still pretty much like new.

Please burn it instead.

HID kits aren't legal behind lenses that aren't designed for HID lamps.  The beam scatters and you will dazzle oncoming motorists.

Only an inconsiderate tosspot would fit such a kit.

Well when I had my hid kit in my Hella quads I never dazzled other motorists at all.. they actually had a pretty nice beam pattern but that's probably due to the projectors.
I also found that mine weren't as bright as my mates lights, which were the same hid kit but in standard clear headlamps, so whether that's because of the smoked lights or projectors I don't know..

However, if you send me 60 quid via paypal then I'll happily burn them :wink:

They wont dazzle other drivers if they're adjusted correctly :smug: 8000k wont be as bright as 4300k or 6000k

I thought the specific Mk3 Golf kits were designed to go behind the lenses to avoid this?

I guess you could always ask your local garage for a quick MOT after they've been fitted and see if the beam pattern is dangerous.

Hella quads despite not being to everybody's taste wouldn't use the original lenses anyway, so should not be a problem.

Forget about dangerously retro-fitted Mk3's... they ought to ban them on any car where the dipped beam comes FROM a height of above 75cms (i.e. ALL SUV's!!)....
