Post by: gibson on 16 August 2004, 12:55
Just bought central locking kit for 5dr from someone advertising in the sale section (was also on ebay) It didnt come with the locks and key (i only just realised!!) Can I use my existing lock mechanism or will i have to get another one. Also if i need locks, i guess scrappy is best, but how much are they roughly?? Thanks

You can, the locking kits use metal rods that bolt to the existing lock mechanism. (usually designed to bolt to the metal rod thats attached to the door pin)

For my rear doors I had to use a coat hanger to extend the locking rod because I had to mount the motor really low to avoid drilling any holes in my doors.

But if you have a genuine MK2 locking kit it will bolt straight on!

from what I get a central locking kit gives you a pump for each door, some wires to connect them and a control unit. you use your original locks and key.
