Title: MOT Fail..... Noooooo!!!!!!
Post by: maaarcooose on 02 June 2009, 17:39

The cab failed it's MOT and to be honest from whats wrong, I'm surprised I haven't had an accident.

3 broken springs, 1 seriously loose wheel bearing and a shot brake hose.

Anyone got a set of springs for a 92 cab for sale?

Not the kind of weather to have to SORN the cab.....

I have a brand new MK1 tintop lowering spring kit, i was assured it would work on a cab. I've decided not to lower mine so its going spare :)

really Jonny? I have always been told the opposite, as there is meant to be a different lip on the leg where the springs sits? could be wrong though..have you actually tried fitting them ?

I think they are the same but from memory they are heaver duty on the rear to cope with the weight of the hood.

well etka shows different top & bottom caps based on the year, but I dont know if this is due to springs or just beefier design.  My cab is an 83 so its all mk1 based anyway!  I know the actual shocks are more heavy duty on the cabs though.

All springs fitted and working well.

The springs fitted perfectly on the fronts and the top mounts on the back are fine too, but it seems like the rear bottom mounts and slightly larger. Seems to be fine though as the springs still sits fine on the mounts, just seem a little tight.

The old springs were worse than I thought. Both fronts had a about 3 quarters of a turn broken off and both rears had a full turn broken off top and bottom.

The difference they have made is huge. Thanks so much Johnny.

Going for retest on Monday and then I have to find the money for the tax. I think it's about time they lowered the tax on MK1's.

And passed.........

Failed me on my brake pipe flares and had to redo them??? They were the ones I did a year ago, but apparantly they leak now. I didn't argue as after I looked at them I realised they were shot. I think I need to work on my pipe flaring technique.

All fixed now though.
Bring on the cab friendly weather.
