I think my ecu on my abf is shot and i wanted to know if its possible to swap the ecu and key over from my other abf. do i just need the chip from the key and the ecu?
-
Yes plus I think you will also need the ring around the ign. switch.
-
you dont seem to be having any luck with ur abf m8 :undecided:
-
You can swap just the ECUs but it will need adapting using VAGCOM or other.
-
Could swap it over, wth the ign ring and key.
Why do you think its your ecu? Have you had it looked at?
-
I have tried everything, its really starting to p!ss me off now. I replaced the crank sensor today cos the wiring on it was shot. i need someone with vag-com to plug it in. i did buy a lead but i can get the drivers to work on it, tried everything once again. when i swapped the ecu before without the ring it would fire up for a second so it makes me think its the ecu....
Might go and buy a vr6 lump and be done with it
-
you need the transponder box, key and ecu. ring doesnt hold anything special so that can be left alone.
-
What do i need for a vr6 conversion??
-
don't think you need the transponder box.i have 3 diffrent ecu's and they all work through the same loop and transponder box just the rfid chip in key that matters
-
if you swap key and transponder box along with the ecu it doesnt need recoding with vagcom, mat says he cant get it vag-com cable working so needs to do it this way ;)
Also says with ecu swapped car starts then dies which is an immobilisor fault.
I beleive if you just swap ecu you can recode the matched key and transponder box to the new ecu as cs98sss4 said :)
edit: I saved this text from clubgti somewhere, this is how you adapt a transponder box to an ecu apparently:
To Adapt Immobiliser:
Go to 'Immobiliser' Module in VAG-Com,
'Adaptation'
Then 'Read'
Wait a few seconds, and press 'Save'.
To Adapt ECU:
Go to 'Engine' Module in VAG-Com,
'Adaptation'
Then 'Read'
Wait a few seconds, and press 'Save'.
Do both...and all works well.
I've swapped them about many times. Never a problem.
This just seems to mate the immobiliser to the engine ECU.

Cheers guys. Im gonna have one last attempt at sorting it out this weekend and if it doesnt work i willbe ripping the whole lot out and dropping in a vr6. Any one know what i need to run an OBD2 VR6 engine. Obiously the engine, ecu, loom and coilpack but is there anything else, i.e will i need the part of loom that runs from the obd plug socket or will this be attatched tothe engine loom?
