I'm looking at replacing my MFD2 with the newer touch screen version.
Whats the best place to buy from?
I'm guessing ebay but are there any trusted sellers?
Also, will it be a straight swap?
Cheers
PS. Whats the difference in Version A and B?
-
Need to get one of these baby's myself!
I would go for the version B - it has some improvements or advancements over Version A - dont ask me what though!!
-
Exact same question from me... have an MFD2 and would like to get the RNS510, so also welcome some pointers :)
-
just check out ebay, and check feedback and email people who have brought them from the seller before, thats what I did, although the guy I brought from hasnt got any.
version A and B arent much different, but you can upgrade version A firmware to version B for free by getting the update on a CD and uploading it the unit.

For the money you pay for the RNS though (about £700) you can buy a better spec product for less money ie something that has built in Bluetooth and DVD playback. Just my thoughts
-
RNS510 does have DVD playback. It also has an SD card slot, I think it has a provision for Bluetooth?
Haven't seen an aftermarket unit yet scouring the net that looks half as good as the RNS510... welcome and open for suggestions though! Any recommendations?

I am interested in getting RNS510 for my E30, as well. At reasonable price, of course.
How much does the installation of that sucker would cost?
-
RNS-510 requires a bluetooth control module thing for the bluetooth to work.
-
I need to pay off my credit cards first - but maybe we should try a group buy of these babies at a later date?!
I may start researching into the possibility of it if there are interested parties.....
-
Good idea, I'm not in a huge hurry so happy to see what happens. Also would need to get rid of the MFD2 at around the same time to part finance it really, to make it a more attractive purchase!

I will probably be selling my RNS510 towards the end of august this year. So will probably hold a closed auction or something.
Has all the speed cameras installed, and a few other bit of info that were on the version 3 DVD.
Will also come complete with about 15gb of music... only a click to remove albums so might save you a few quid also.
Cost me £40 to get it fitted... from anyone with a bit more patience than me :undecided:

Yes you can add a Bluetooth adaptor but they cost over £300! and on top of the £700+ you have already paid makes it a very dear do.
The Pioneer Avic F700BT or F900BT can be picked up for half of that price!

Dammit I'd have offered to buy it off ya. How much were you thinking of selling it for?

Agreed - the price of the RNS from VW is something like £1500.
The only reason for buying it would be the visual finish. I've got plan up my sleeve which, AFAIK, involves the RNS510.
-
I installed my RNS in about an hour, as I was being very careful.
good point, but however the Pioneer Avic F700BT or F900BT can also be removed from your car just as easily as it was fitted. RNS is much harder to get out and less attractive to thieves.

Group Buy!!!!!
Although i would want one in no later than 6-8weeks
-
I will have one deffo if the price is right!!
-
im tempted to buy one now. cant bloody wait!!!!!!!!!
They look so sexyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!!! !! !

whilst i have this R32 courtesy car I can quite happily say the one thing i miss is the RNS510... no need for tom tom, cd's flying round the car, or quite cheap look of the std stereo.... which tbh you only really realise once you have had it.
I would happily swap the cruise, mfsw, parking sensors, dsg and leather just for the 510

Like I said, I welcome suggestions! That Pioneer looks very nice - how well does it integrate with the highline MFD?

I have not seen it in the flesh, but having seen pics I agree - most other after market units look cheap in comparison.... the RNS looks like a lovely bit of kit
